A GOOD 'ROMANTIC REVIVAL' PARRYING OR 'MAIN GAUCHE' DAGGER,
Spanish, circa 1860, with highly polished straight 16in. tapering blade double-edged for the last 6 1/4in., the remainder with carved and moulded back edge and etched on both sides with panels of scroll-work on a gilt ground, broad double ringed carved ricasso etched 'ARTILLERIA FABRICA DE TOLEDO' on the left hand face and with right hand face dished for the thumb and etched with scrolls, both faces on a gilt ground, straight iron cross-guard with turned dome-ended quillions, sail-form knuckle-guard etched with scrolls on the outer face, fine wire-bound grip-piece quartered with plain bars and swollen pommel with engraved edge, complete with its leather scabbard with etched scroll-work to the iron mounts (losses to finish on leather)
